The West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council

We want to bring to residents of West Anaheim ongoing news and events to keep you informed on what is going on in our community.

WAND (West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council) began nineteen years ago in January 1997 when thirteen neighborhood watch groups joined with a group called West Anaheim Citizens, formed in March 1995, decided to meet to improve the quality of life for West Anaheim residents. We held WAND meetings monthly along with the Land Use Committee to discuss projects coming before the Planning Commission. Our Community Participation Committee has brought to the community the popular Christmas Tree Lighting in December and the WAND Anaheim Western BBQ the second Saturday in May in Twila Reid Park for the past eighteen years.

We met with the city of Anaheim to request an enlarged Haskett Library, West Anaheim police station, community center, fire station and demanded a higher quality of home, condo and apartment construction. The city build a new, enlarged (three times larger) Haskett Library, West Anaheim Police Station and Youth Center and a Fire Station. We wrote letters to Washington in 1998 to get a ten million dollar grant for “Sinking Lincoln” to be cleaned up and finally developed – a sixteen year project so far. Our members have been tenacious in our demands and the city of Anaheim listened. Our “quality of life” in West Anaheim improved until the mid 2000’s and relapsed during the recent recession. Once again the city stepped up to clean up the prostitution on Beach Blvd. and help the homeless. There is more to be done.

We invite you to join in our endeavors to make West Anaheim a good place to live. We have no dues – we give our time and effort – to accomplish what we do. You can become part of WAND by simply coming to our meetings and getting involved.

WAND Chairman

West Anaheim is the area west of Euclid Avenue to beyond Knott Avenue on the west, the area west of the 5 freeway on the north and to the south border. It is amazing what can be done when a group of good people come together on a project. Let’s work together for a better community. Our quality of life in West Anaheim depends on it.
